Malamel Waterfalls
On the way from Theekoy to Vagamon lies a little-known waterfall. It’s about 10 kilometers from Theekoy, near the Surya and Rose homestays, close to St. Alphonsa’s Church (Malamel). Also known as Marmala waterfalls, hardly anyone knows about this scenic spot. After passing Rose Homestay, take the uphill path for a short distance—you’ll find a trail to the left. A short walk down this trail brings you to the falls. During the monsoons, this area is a favorite playground for monkeys, so it’s best to take precautions.
Kottamala
Kottamala is a beautiful, relatively untouched place in Vagamon. The road to this spot is off-road, so if your vehicle isn’t suitable, it’s better to hire a jeep safari from Vagamon. From here, you can take in sweeping views of mountain ranges, rolling meadows, and lush valleys. It’s also a great spot for a short trek.
Idukki Dam Viewpoint
Would you believe you can enjoy a close view of the Idukki Dam from Vagamon? Yes, it’s possible—but only by taking an off-road route. This hidden vantage point is known as the Idukki Dam Viewpoint.
Kappakanam Waterfalls and Tunnel
There’s something refreshing about seeing a waterfall flowing through the middle of a forest. At Kappakanam Waterfalls, you can watch the water cascading down before it makes its way to the Idukki Dam. The main highlight here is the tunnel beside the falls. When the water level is low, it also makes for a perfect spot to take a dip.
Kaithapathal
Kaithapathal is one of Vagamon’s most stunning hidden spots—yet rarely visited by tourists. It can only be reached by an off-road trip. From here, you can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Vagamon. A short drive from Vagamon town will take you to a place called Pazhaya Chanda (Old Market). Just before reaching it, take the road to the left and it will lead you straight to Kaithapathal.
